Asians and Friends Chicago celebrated Gay Pride at the annual Pride Parade with a Chinese Zodiac theme, featuring all the animal “signs” that symbolize different personality traits. The float theme blended with the overall parade’s theme of freedom–the freedom to be who you are as individuals. Float riders dressed as their birth years, inclusive of rabbits, a rat, a rooster, a dragon, a tiger and an ox.

The sundail design featured the animal signs and actually spun on its axis. Design contributors and creators include Oliver A., Michael N. and John M.

Float marchers learned a dance to the song, “Animal,” an original song created by DJ Aaron Sager, who played for the audience from the float. Photos from Angel A., Paul C., Oliver A. and Ginger Red. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped build the float, sponsors who donated funds and our raffle donors, Atmosphere Bar, Campit Outdoor Resort, Lucky Horseshoe, Max’s Place, Men’s Room, The North End and Sidetrack.
