It’s Prom Time Asians and Friends Chicago!
This Saturday is our “prom night” themed fundraiser to support our Pride activities as well as a local, Chicago-based charity.
Prom Fundraiser: AFC’s LGBTQ Prom Night will take place on Sat., May 18, 2024, at the Holiday Club, 4000 N. Sheridan in Chicago at 7 p.m. Look for us in the back party room.
D.J. Ron Sager (ronsager.com) will take guests through prom hits from the 80’s, 90’s and the 2000’s, plus a few recent chart-topping songs to get promsters onto the dance floor. Colors for Prom Night will be red, gold and white, with entertainment including a photo-op backdrop, an “Under the Sea” Pride Parade preview, Prom Court reveal, special live performances and a raffle of gift cards and novelty items.
Our raffle donors include Atmosphere, D.J. Casper, Rainbow Races, the Ralph Childs Estate, Secrets Beauty Boutique, Stir Friday Night and Token Theater.
The evening will include special “School Administrators” and dignitaries from the community.

The event, which will bring together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community, also coincides with festivities celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Month.
“Our purpose is to build community among LGBTQ individuals, with a special focus on people of Asian descent,” said Angel Abcede, president of the Board of Directors for the Chicago-based AFC. “As a minority within a minority, those of us with roots in the Philippines, China, Korea, Laos, Thailand and Hawaii can often feel lost in a city like Chicago. We offer a place to build support and self-worth.”
AFC is also proud to announce a new partnership with Humble Hearts, a Chicago-based charity that collects donations of clothing and healthcare products for needy communities. Visit http://humbleheartsfoundation.org.

Dim Sum: Sun., June 2 at 12:30 p.m. at Furama, 4936 N. Broadway, Chicago, Second-floor landing. We’ll have pre-game at Fat Cat, 4840 N. Broadway at 11:30 a.m. and post-meal libations at SoFo Tap, 4923 N. Clark afterwards. Dress for Pride!
Pre-Pride Decoration/Building Gatherings: Sun., June 23 and Sat., June 29 from 1-4 p.m. at Michael N.’s, 4239 S. Langley, Chicago. Bring snacks/drink to share. We’ll be building parts of our 2024 Pride Parade float.
Pre-Pride Party: Our annual pre-Pride party will take place at Michael N.’s at 4239 S. Langley, Chicago from 4-8 p.m., with Secrets Beauty Salon sponsoring some of our drinks. Bring food/drink and your Pride spirit to share.
Pride Parade and after-party: We’ll have Pride marchers and float riders meet between 9-10 a.m. at the designated float spot (TBA) on Sun., June 30. Parade starts earlier this year at 11 a.m. We’ll have an afterparty starting around 2:30 p.m. at Atmosphere, 5355 N. Clark, Chicago. Bring food to Atmosphere to share. We’ll be set up by the dart boards in the back. Time to party hardy!
