IFCON 2016 Chicago events:
Thurs., Sept. 1; 2 p.m.-4 p.m.: Early Bird Registration, Lower-level Lobby, Downstairs, DoubleTree by Hilton Chicago–Magnificent Mile, 300 E. Ohio, Chicago, Ill.
Thurs., Sept. 1; 6 p.m.-10 p.m.: Pre-IFCON party at a private home in the Andersonville neighborhood, Robert and Carter’s 5338 N. Ashland. For AFC members (local Chicagoans), please consider bringing a dish to share as we’re playing host to a few dozen early bird visitors. For IFCON out-of-towners, the private home is north of the hotel by several miles. Somewhat accessible by CTA trains. More accessible via bus, taxi, Uber or Lyft. Afterwards, guides will bring you to the gay life nearby in Andersonville (bars, restaurants, shops), with special certificates from @mosphere Bar to raffle.
Fri. Sept. 2, noon-5 p.m.: Registration, Lower-level Lobby, Downstairs, DoubleTree.
Fri., Sept. 2; 6 p.m.-10 p.m. “Your Home Town” themed IFCON Opening Reception in the DoubleTree, 300 E. Ohio, 5th Floor Pool (Rain Date: Markethouse Restaurant off the main hotel lobby). Appetizers, cash bar. Gay spots suggested with a local tour (limited capacity) to follow.
Sat., Sept. 3; Tours, Boat Cruise. Various times starting in the a.m., local tours with multiple local tour guides. Visit www.ifcon2016.org and click on the Events Tab, then the IFCON Tours option. Then at 4 p.m., we’ll do a photo shoot at the Spirit of Chicago boat midway down Navy Pier, which is several blocks east of the hotel but walking distance; 4:30 boarding (dinner, D.J., dancing, complimentary beer, wine and soda with cash bar for mixed drinks) back on land by 7 p.m. Free night. We’ll suggest gay bars and other local events and have the hospitality suite at the hotel open until midnight.
Sun., Sept. 4; Tours, Gala Dinner. International Friendship Alliance (IFA) Board Meeting (open to all attendees, but only IFA Board members may vote on motions), 9 a.m., LaSalle Room, DoubleTree hotel. More local tours. (Visit ifcon2016.org) and 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Gala “Momma Morton’s Speakeasy” IFCON Dinner, Entertainment and Dance. Hospitality suite open until midnight.
Mon., Sept. 5; Farewell Brunch. 11 a.m. It’ll be in the lower level lobby of the DoubleTree, so no travel necessary. For those staying Monday night, we’re plan a couple of optional activities in the city that afternoon and a nice dinner at the Volare Restaurant, 201 E. Grand, near the hotel.
Tues. Sept. 6: Still in Chicago? Cocktails at Angel and Bob’s, 555 N. Artesian Ave. Unit i, at 5 p.m.-9 p.m. It’s four miles west. Take the Grand Ave. bus. We’ll order in from any restaurant you like.
