12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.“Black Sexuality in the 21st Century: Change” will be a forum – – convened by achurch4me MCC and Sankofa Way – – where community leaders will explore how racism, misogyny, homophobia, and attitudes about HIV affect the way we love and live. And how we can change that.
Rev. Irene Monroe is scheduled to offer the opening statement, and Laura S. Washington will be the moderator. The panelists will be Rev. Rowland Jide Macaulay, pastor of House Of Rainbow MCC in Nigeria; Rick Garcia, Equality Illinois; Dr. Terri Pease, trauma and domestic violence specialist for Sankofa Way; AquaMoon, the womyn- and youth-centered writing, performance and artistic team; and Rev. Deborah Lake, Sankofa Way.
The following day, Sunday November 11, all are also invited to participate in a special worship service at achurch4me MCC. Service will be held at the same location as the forum and will start at 11:00 a.m.
This event is co-hosted by achurch4me MCC and Sankofa Way. The friends of the forum are the Human Rights Campaign and Equality Illinois. Sponsors are the Chicago Department of Public Health. The forum is supported by the AIDS Foundation and endorsed by Chicago Commission on Human Relations’ Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues.
