Rachel Maddow: Gay Asian Soldier Talks About Discrimination in Military

Rachel Maddow finally got an uninterrupted interview with National Guard First Lieutenant Dan Choi of Knights Out, the group of 38 West Point graduates who came out of the closet last week to form a support group for US Military Academy active duty alumni, cadets, and their families and offered to serve as liaisons between alumni and Army administrators as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is repealed.

Jason Wu

CNN reported that Jason Wu, a young New York designer originally from Taiwan, designed the gown Michelle Obama wore to the inaugural balls tonight. He said he didn’t know she would wear it until he saw her on TV tonight. Various designers had submitted creations to her.

He went to Parsons and interned with Narciso Rodriguez. He’s working on a collection for Fashion Week in two weeks.

Hong Kong’s 1st Official Gay Pride Parade

At last it has happened. Hong Kong’s first gay pride parade processed through the crowded streets of Hong Kong Island on the afternoon of Saturday 13 December. And it was a huge success. Some 1,200 men and women, young and old, mostly gay but with some straight friends too, marched for just under two hours from the assembly point outside the Causeway Bay MTR entrance in Great George Street, one of the most congested places on the face of the planet, straight along the major East-West thoroughfare of Hennessy Road to its final destination in the public Southern Playground near Wanchai’s station.

Energy Ornament

Here we go! The unveiling of the next handmade ornament to be raffled off at our Sat. Dec. 13 Holiday Dinner at Riques, 5004 N. Sheridan in Chicago. It’s called “We Have Energy!” and it’s made by AFC Board member Harry Chan. “The focus for the future will be ‘going green’ and I believe we have the resources to switch to alternative energies,” he says. “We just have to commit to the change.”

You can now purchase presale tickets to the dinner on the AFC Web site www.afchicago.org. After Nov. 30, tickets go from $30 to $35. "Obama's Star" Pictured here is “Obama’s Star,” the first of several hand-crafted ornaments (with a new one revealed each week on AFC’s blog) to be raffled off at the upcoming Asians and Friends Chicago Holiday Dinner, Sat., Dec. 13, 2008 at Riques Regional Mexican Restuarant, 5004 N. Sheridan, just south of Big Chicks in Chicago. The festivities will start at 7 p.m. and dinner service will be at 7:30 p.m. Starter beer and wine will be provided. The restaurant is BYOB.
