Coat of Generosity – A Final Ornament of Love and Remembrance

Through a generous donation from AFC Board member Ralph Childs, we present our last holiday ornament up for raffle at tomorrow’s (12/13) Asians and Friends Chicago Holiday Dinner. It’s a Christopher Radko ornament from Macy’s called “Quilt ‘n’ Claus” and was inspired by the Names Project Quilt. Santa’s robe is made up of quilt panels and makes a beautiful ornament and very timely with World AIDS day this month. A portion of the ornament price is donated to the AIDS Awareness Foundation by Radko.

We’ve given a final head count today, but we will have room for people who show up without an RSVP, so please come even if you didn’t have time to RSVP. It’s at Riques Regional Mexican Restaurant, 5004 N. Sheridan in Chicago. We have reserved their “back room” for our event, which will start at 7 p.m. with buffet dinner, starter beer and wine and sangria. $35 with dancing at Big Chicks to follow.

Happiest of holidays to all!

AFC members:

We’ll be meeting at Spin at 6 p.m. to make sure we’re all signed up for the Halloween parade. Details below. But if you don’t want to march, join us then as well because we don’t know just where we’re going to end up in terms of a big contest later in the evening. Thanks!

North Halsted Street Halloween Parade

Date: October 31, 2008
Time: 5:30 p.m. Registration | 7:00 p.m. Step-Off
Location: Belmont & Halsted
Presented By: Triangle Neighbors Association
For more info, visit www.lakeviewcitizens.org/halloween.asp.
The 12th annual event — held on one of Chicago’s most eclectic streets — will step off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening, October 31, from Belmont (3200 N.) and Halsted (800 W). The parade route is north on Halsted to Cornelia before returning south to a main stage at Halsted and Roscoe.

Presented by Triangle Neighbors Association, a branch of the Lake View Citizens’ Council, in conjunction with the Northalsted Area Merchants Association, the iconic annual parade is always guaranteed to be one of the city’s most outrageous and imaginative Halloween celebrations.

Thousands are expected to either participate in or view the parade which has quickly grown to become one of the Chicago area’s must-attend Halloween events. The parade draws a broad mix of area residents including children and families.

Free registration for the costume contest for children, pets, adults and groups begins at 5:30 p.m. at Spin, 800 W. Belmont.

Winners of the costume contest for kids and pets will be announced immediately after the parade followed later by adult and group contest winners.

There will be over $5,000 in costume contest cash and prizes, including airline tickets for two. There will also be post-parade musical entertainment.

Sponsorship proceeds and donations from the parade support the construction of Space Park, a new community garden park near Halsted and Roscoe which is slated to open in 2008. To date, the community has raised over $1.2 million for park.

Entertainment
Join us at the parade’s finish, at the 7-11 Parking Lot (Roscoe & Halsted) for awards, fun and live entertainment, beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m.!
Registration – Costume Contest
Participation in the parade is FREE! Dress in your best costume, and join us at Spin (Belmont & Halsted)! Enter your ghoulish get-up or freaky fashion into our costume contest. Prizes will be awarded to several categories (including funniest, scariest and most original) for adults, plus a category for best children’s and best pet’s costumes.
