AFC's 2010 Chinese New Year's Dinner -- Year of the Tiger!


A traditional, multi-course meal at Phoenix, one of the city's finest Chinese restaurants at 2131 S. Archer. In addition to the stunning view of the Chicago skyline, this 25th Anniversary Year gathering will feature live, cabaret-style performances from members of AFC and stars of the local theater scene.

Chinese New Year’s Dinner. AFC’s annual event will return to the Phoenix Restaurant, 2131 S. Archer in Chicago. With a scenic view of downtown’s skyline, the evening will feature a multi-course dinner and a cabaret-style performance to cap off the evening. $45 presale through Fri., Feb. 5; $50 at the door. Monthly Dim Sum. Though just coming off of our Chinese New Year’s dinner the night before, some members of AFC will show up the following Sunday (Superbowl!) in case others do. So if you want the fun to continue, join us at Furama Restaurant, 4936 N. Broadway in Chicago, 12:30 p.m. It’s our first-Sunday-of-the-month Dim Sum. Meet at the second-floor landing and be prompt! Cost of the meal will be split among attendees and typically ranges from $15-$20. No RSVP required.

Mahjong and Karaoke at Wild Pug, 4810 N. Broadway in Chicago, 7-10 p.m. mahjong with Karaoke to follow. This is our traditional mahjong night where people can learn and play the third Thursday night of every month, but we’re also preparing folks to compete in our first-ever Asians and Friends Mahjong Tournament--a one-day event tentatively set for mid-April 2010.

Bryn Mawr in Chicago from 7-9 p.m. to promote our planned 25th anniversary, black-tie optional Anniversary Ball to take place Fri., May 7, 2010. Beats from D.J. Oskar to follow. It’s a free event to sell tickets and preview the cabaret-style entertainment that will occur in May.

AFC’s 25th Anniversary Ball, Hotel Allegro, 171 W. Randolph in Chicago, 6:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m. show-only). Asians and Friends Chicago is proud to join other gay, lesbian, straight and transgendered couples gathering in a one-night-only event called the “Our Anniversary Ball.” Show-only, cash-bar tickets will sell for $25, but a premiere package of $100 per person will secure seating at AFC’s tables, 2-hour appetizer/beer/wine package, inclusion in a video compilation and a live, cabaret-style performance. International Male Leather. AFC members will gather at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 151 E. Wacker Dr. in Chicago, on the north end of the second-floor atrium bar at 10 p.m. It’s a mix-and-mingle that will end up at one of the free parties held at the hotel. It’s an opportunity to wear your leather, but is not required. The group will head to the parties at 11 p.m.
